AFRIKKI: Despite the significant progress Africa is experiencing, its image remains negative: indeed, the continent continues to be negatively perceived by the public opinion from the North. It was built over time, in the imaginary of the Western world, a restricting and distorting representation of Africans, a certain idea of Africa, its civilization, its capacity.
According to Stevens, "we do not know, in general, that Africa is made up of 53 countries. Hence, even if [some] African countries are the scene of armed conflicts, the image conveyed is that of a continent at war. Furthermore, although it is obvious that African countries are doing enormous progress towards democratic governance, (…) the continent is still regarded as undemocratic. From the outside, for most people Africa is the continent which has absorbed considerable international funds for development without making a significant improvement… "
