AFRIKKI: Why?
Because Africa is on the track: The current momentum for change in the continent is taking place together with qualitatively significant transformations in the various fields of social, economic and cultural spheres. The most important of them can be identified at the following four levels:
At the societal level, the change THE emergence of a generation of political leaders who are eager to make real their commitments, adding to that is the affirmation of new media scenery holding new forceful values.
At the political level, more and more countries are being committed to a democratisation of their political systems and a decentralisation process favourable to public governance.
From an economic viewpoint, the new millennium began under favourable auspices in Africa. This region has in 2005 registered a growth rate of 5.4% which is higher than that of most developed countries. African economies have continued to maintain the momentum of growth in previous years by posting an overall rate of real GDP growth of 5.8% in 2007;
From a cultural point of view, Africans see themselves differently and they now look to the future with optimism. According to the results of the survey conducted by the research organization Gallup International addressing 52,000 people across the world, the proportion of Africans who in 2005 felt that this year would be better than 2004 is higher than the world average (60% against 50%) and equivalent to twice the European average. |
